Overall Technique

Overalls. Easier said than done. I sure wish I had some little models nearby. I took for granted trying out all my designs on the Dula kids. So, the answer to being unsure of size? Making pants a little longer and adding a little elastic into the mix. 

With these overalls I wanted to use buttons for a vintage look, but I also wanted the longevity that adjustable straps offer. So I came up with this design. I used buttons on the back of the waist  and made two button holes. So the straps just double over at the end and the button comes through two button holes. Then when your tiny tike grows an inch or two the buttons can move on to the bottom button hole. I should have taken a picture of this... oops.

Flannel lined corduroys. I even made the lining so that these cuties can be reversible. The print would be upside down though. I wanted the cuffs to be right-side up, so it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. The beauty of cuffs is that pants can be worn through two or three growth spurts.

I'm not a huge fan of these pictures, but I do like these overalls. I used the same doubled-over straps with buttons in the back for the sake of growth adjustment. These aren't lined, but they have a flannel cuff so they can fold down for added length.

Jacket Foibles

I'm perfecting my tiny jacket skills. I'm trying to branch out from our standard Etsy items. As with any new project, this one came with a few choice words and quite a bit of stitch-ripping. I am pleased with the outcome of my new found boldness.

I've made a number of these pull-overs. The pattern I have is for a newborn, so it's been tricky enlarging it by 2 and 3 times. I really like this style because it's practical (can be easily taken on and off) but it's different from normal baby-wear. I usually don't like fleece because it's basically like wrapping a kid in plastic, but I feel like jackets are the exception. Don't ask me why.

I actually used a legitimate pattern for this number. The pattern was from the seventies, and therefore wanted me to make this jacket super baggy. After an unintended cut, I ended up making the jacket quite a bit narrower and I'm glad that I did. With stretchy knit this 3T jacket would have been more like a short 5T.
